Terms are in alphabetical order. Where a term has a page of its own, it is linked.

Access, records you can access — Every list, count and total in Datum includes only the records the person looking is allowed to see. See Key concepts.

As at — The control at the foot of a record that shows the record on another date, on either timeline. See Reading a record.

Attribute — A single fact about a record, such as a legal name or a registration number.

Bitemporal — Stored on two timelines at once: when something was true (valid time) and when the firm knew it (recorded time).

Change request — A proposed edit awaiting a data steward's decision. Also called a proposal. See Proposing a change.

Client role — The firm's relationship with a party, carrying the client identifier. A party is a client only through holding a client role.

Correction — A history entry that fixes an earlier belief, as opposed to recording a change in the world.

Data steward — A person responsible for the quality of the data: decides matches, approves changes, edits records.

Defer — To put a match-review pair aside without deciding.

Directory group — A group in the firm's identity directory. Datum maps groups to roles; it creates no users.

Endpoint class — One of the kinds of action a role may take: read, xref, steward, extract, admin. Shown in words in your account panel. See Roles and access.

Entity — A kind of record Datum masters: party organisation, party person, client role, matter, internal person, organisation unit, panel appointment — and any the firm adds. See Entities.

Ethical wall — A restriction that removes a client relationship's records from named people, however otherwise entitled. A walled record answers not found. See What you cannot see.

Golden record — The single mastered version of a real-world thing, built from its source records.

Hierarchy — A tree of relationships between records, such as a corporate group. See Hierarchies.

Master identifier — The permanent identifier of a golden record, shown as ID in its header. It outlives renames and, after a merge, redirects.

Match — A judgement that two records describe the same real-world thing, expressed as a probability. See Match review.

Match thresholds — The probabilities that separate merge automatically, ask a steward and treat as different. See Match thresholds.

Merge — Folding two records into one golden record. The retired identifier redirects to the survivor, and a merge can be reversed.

Pin / override — A steward's choice of a value in place of the one the survivorship rules chose, with a reason and an end condition. Marked Overridden by a steward.

Privilege — Permission to read or write an entity or attribute, carried by a role. Withholds fields; contrast with a wall.

Provenance — Where a value came from: the source system, the record in it, and the rule that chose it. See Why this value? in Reading a record.

Queue — A list of work waiting for a person, such as Match review. See Daily routine.

Quality score — A 0–100 measure of how well a record satisfies the firm's data-quality rules, shown in its header and detailed in its Quality tab.

Reference data — Controlled lists of values, such as courts or jurisdictions, that records point at. See Reference data.

Role — A named set of privileges that a directory group confers.

Service account — A non-human principal, such as a reporting service, with its own narrow entitlement. See Roles and access.

SLA — The time a queue item or task is allowed to wait. One past it is marked SLA breached or Overdue.

Source system / source record — A firm system that supplies data (for example Elite 3E or Firm CRM) and a row in it. Datum reads sources and does not change them.

Survivorship — The rules that choose, attribute by attribute, which source value the golden record shows. See Survivorship.

Taxonomy — The firm's own controlled vocabulary: the subset of the FOLIO legal vocabulary that the firm has chosen to use, for classifying things such as areas of law and courts. See Taxonomy.

Timekeeper — A person at the firm who records time; an internal person. See People directory.

Valid on / As recorded on — The two dates in the As-at control: when something was true, and what the firm had recorded by then.

Workflow — A defined sequence of steps, such as Matter intake, that raises tasks for people. See Workflows.
